⚠️Almost Got Scammed: Please Read This Before You Trust a Payment Message
I want to share an experience I had recently so that others can be aware and avoid falling for a similar scam. I received a call from a person who said that my brother had given him my number because he owed him some money, and that he wanted to pay me instead. He first asked me to share my UPI QR code. I told him I could share it, but he said he would send the money using my phone number, so I shared my number. He then claimed that he had to send me ₹11,000. First, he said he would send ₹10 as a test. Shortly after, I received a message showing that ₹10 had supposedly been sent. However, when I checked my bank/UPI account, the money had not actually been credited. Then he tried the same thing again, saying he was sending ₹9,000. Once again, I received a message, but there was no actual money credited to my account. Finally, he claimed that he had accidentally sent ₹20,000 instead of ₹2,000 and asked me to return the extra amount. That's when I checked everything carefully and realized that the money had never been transferred at all. He was simply trying to make me believe that payments had been made by showing/faking transaction [TXN_ID]. Thankfully, I did not send him any money.
