Fake RTO Challan APK Scam from [PHONE]

I received a WhatsApp message from the number [PHONE] (name showing as “Satheeshkumar” in Truecaller) claiming to be from RTO Tamil Nadu regarding a traffic challan for my vehicle. The message included a “Challan No” and my vehicle number to make it look genuine. They asked me to download an APK file named “M PARIVAHAN 99.apk” to verify the challan details. This is clearly a scam. Government authorities will never send APK files via WhatsApp. Official apps are only available on trusted platforms like Play Store. Such APK files can contain malware and can steal personal, financial, and sensitive data from your phone. I did not open or install the file, and there was no financial loss. Please be careful and do not trust such messages. Always verify through official government websites like Parivahan or e-Challan portals. Stay alert and do not fall for such scams.
