Fake transaction SMS. It claims ₹10,998 was credited to my bank account, but no such transaction exists in my actual bank account. The SMS also contains a suspicious shortened Bitly link. Please investigate and block/report the sender.

How This Scam Works * Fake SMS Notification: Scammers send an SMS or pop-up notification formatted to look like a bank credit alert (***., "₹10,998 credited to Account 6825"). * The "Accidental Transfer" Claim: The scammer will contact you claiming they sent money to your account by mistake and ask you to send it back. * No Money Actually Arrives: Since no real bank transfer took place, sending them money means you are giving them your own funds. Safe Actions to Take 1. Check Official Bank App Log into your official bank or UPI app (like Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm) to see if your actual balance changed or if the transaction appears in your official statement. 2. Do Not Refund directly If someone contacts you asking for a refund, do not send money back manually. Instruct them to report the wrong transfer to their own bank so the bank can handle the reversal officially. 3. Block and Report Block the sender's phone number and report the message as spam within your messaging or caller ID app.
