Fraud call pretending to be bank asking for OTP
Lately I’ve been getting a lot of strange calls from unknown numbers, pretending to be everything from banks to courier services, and every time they try to rush me into sharing an OTP or some personal details, so now I always check the number on Truecaller first and if it looks shady or marked as spam, I just don’t pick up and immediately block and report it. I’ve also noticed a rise in random WhatsApp calls from international numbers I don’t recognize; instead of panicking, I quickly search them on Truecaller, and when they show up as spam or scam, I feel relieved that I didn’t answer, and I make sure to mark them as spam so others get warned too. Sometimes I even get calls that look like they’re from customer care of popular apps, but when I search on Truecaller, I see comments from other users saying it’s a scam, which really helps me avoid getting tricked and reminds me to only trust official numbers listed inside the real app or website. A few days ago someone called claiming to be from my bank and said my card would be blocked in 30 minutes unless I shared my OTP, but Truecaller showed the number as “Fraud” with lots of red flags, so I hung up immediately and later confirmed with the bank that it was a fake call, which honestly made me appreciate how useful those spam tags and user reports are. Now I’ve made it a habit to quickly update names, block spam, and leave short comments on suspicious numbers in Truecaller, because those little updates from regular users like us can help thousands of people stay safe from scams and annoying calls every single day.
