  Receiving a sudden flood of unsolicited OTPs (One-Time Passwords) via SMS, WhatsApp, or phone calls is known as an SMS bombing or OTP bombing attack. An automated tool uses open APIs on various login or sign-up portals to request verification codes to your phone number simultaneously. Here is how to deal with and prevent OTP bombing: Immediate Action During an Attack • Turn on Do Not Disturb (DND) or Airplane Mode: Temporarily silencing notifications or toggling Airplane mode for 10–15 minutes usually forces the automated script to time out or run through its batch. • Do NOT share or click anything: Never share any received OTPs or tap links inside the messages. The attackers generally do not have access to your accounts; they are simply triggering public verification forms. • Do NOT reply: Replying "STOP" or interacting with incoming messages can confirm your number is active to spam bots. Long-Term Prevention & Protection • Enable Spam Protection in Messaging Apps: - Google Messages: Go to Settings > Spam protection > Enable Enable spam protection. - Truecaller / Spam Blockers: Enable auto-blocking for top spammers or unknown numbers. • Activate Carrier-Level DND (Do Not Disturb): Register your phone number on your telecom operator's National Do Not Disturb / Fully Blocked registry to block commercial and automated bulk messages. • Check Account Security: Although OTP bombing is usually just a nuisance prank or distraction tactic, check your primary email and financial accounts to ensure no unauthorized login attempts or password resets were successful.
