Nowadays, two types of frauds are being committed targeting the drivers of Ola, Uber and Rapido: 1. Fake complaint and ID block threat Method: Fraudsters make fake bookings on the app. They then ask the driver to call another number, pretending that the driver's number is coming off. Threat: On talking, they threaten the driver that they will make his main complaint to the Uber partner or company and get his ID blocked. Tip: Do not call any such unknown number or come under their threats. 2. Fake Payment Messages (Paytm/UPI) and Cash Fraud Method: Fraudsters ask the driver to stop at a particular location after booking. They say that they will have an acquaintance there, to whom the driver gives ₹ 2000 cash. Bluff: They assure the driver that they are transferring this money to his phone via Paytm or UPI. Fake Message: Immediately after this, a fake text message (SMS) comes on the driver's phone which looks like a bank or Paytm message, but no money is actually transferred. Tip: Do not give cash to anyone unless you see the balance in your own bank account or the app's wallet. Don't believe money is true just by looking at text messages.
