Scam Alerts

Common scams increasingly rely on social engineering rather than technical hacking. Impersonation scams Someone pretends to be a friend, relative, employer, bank, delivery company, government official, or customer-support agent. WhatsApp takeover A scammer tries to obtain your verification code and then registers your WhatsApp on their device. Never give anyone your WhatsApp verification code. Fake investment/crypto opportunities Promises such as “guaranteed returns,” “double your money,” or “limited-time opportunity” are major warning signs. Fake jobs Scammers may request registration fees, training fees, deposits, or personal financial information before employment. Fake payment/refund messages You receive a message claiming you've received money, overpaid, or are entitled to a refund and are asked to click a link or send money. Phishing A message directs you to a website that looks like a bank, social network, delivery service, or government portal and asks you to log in. Romance scams Someone develops an online relationship and eventually asks for money, emergency assistance, investment, or expensive gifts. QR-code scams A QR code can send you to a fraudulent website or payment page. Treat unexpected QR codes like links—verify where they lead before proceeding.
