An unknown call and ₹50,000 lost: Your one mistake can cost you dearly!"Yesterday morning, I received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed to be my bank manager. He said, "Sir, your credit card is about to be blocked, you need to renew it immediately." His voice was so professional that I believed him for a moment. He casually asked for the last 4 digits of my card and then said, "A verification code (OTP) has been sent to your phone, please tell me quickly or your card will be permanently blocked." Just as I was about to share the OTP, I glanced at my phone screen. On Truecaller, that number was already highlighted in red with the label: "Scammer / Bank Fraud." Hundreds of people had reported it as spam. I immediately hung up and called the bank's customer care. They confirmed that the bank never asks for OTP or PIN over the phone. That one warning from Truecaller saved me from losing ₹50,000. What can we learn from this story? (How to avoid scams): Never share OTP and PIN: No genuine bank or company will ask for OTP, password, or UPI PIN over the phone. Don't rush decisions: Scammers always try to scare you by saying "Your account will be closed" or "Your electricity will be cut off." Always stay calm and verify. Beware of numbers marked in red: If Truecaller shows a number as 'Spam' or 'Fraud,' do not answer that call at all. Report: If you receive such fake calls, immediately mark them as 'Spam' on Truecaller so others can be protected. Be safe
