Stay aware

Scammers are increasingly trying to hijack WhatsApp accounts by pretending to be from a trusted company or organizing an urgent “Zoom meeting.” They first try to register WhatsApp with your phone number, which triggers a 6-digit verification code sent to you. Then they call or message you, urgently asking you to share that code for “verification” or to “fix an issue.” The moment you share that 6-digit code, they can take over your WhatsApp, lock you out, and start messaging your contacts to ask for money in your name. Never share verification codes with anyone, always enable 2-step verification on WhatsApp and other apps, and use a scam identification and blocking app like Truecaller to help spot and block suspicious calls and messages.
