upi scam ae bache
The Golden Rules (for EVERY scam) • You never need a PIN to RECEIVE money. On UPI, entering your PIN = money going OUT. If someone says "enter PIN to get refund/cashback", it's a scam. • Never share OTP, UPI PIN, CVV. No bank, RBI, or customer care will ever ask for it. • Pause on urgency. Scammers create panic: "KYC blocked", "parcel held", "account will close today". Legit companies don't do this. • Verify the ID, not just the name. Always double-check UPI ID, email, and website domain before paying. 2. UPI & Banking Scams - Most common in Ahmedabad/Gujarat • Download UPI apps only from Play Store / App Store, not from WhatsApp links • Don't scan a QR to receive money. QR is only for paying. • Never give remote access. Apps like AnyDesk, TeamViewer are "digital handing over your phone" - scammers use it to see your OTPs • Never hand your phone to a stranger for a "quick call" - they can install something or make a UPI payment in 20 seconds • Turn on app lock + biometrics for GPay/PhonePe/Paytm and check transaction history daily 3. Phone / WhatsApp Scams • Bank KYC, electricity bill, courier failed: All fake. Don't click the link. Go to official app directly • Friend in trouble / new number: "Mum, I lost my phone, send money to this UPI" - always call back on the old number with video. • Fake customer care numbers on Google - scammers buy ads. Search on official website only. • Turn on DND and TRAI spam filter, but still - if you get a call from "1930" or "[PHONE] bank", it's spoofed. 4. Online Shopping, Job & Investment Scams • If price is too good, and seller pushes you off-platform to Telegram/WhatsApp UPI - walk away • No real job asks you to pay to get a job, task, or training kit • Crypto / trading / "double your money in 7 days" groups on Telegram are 99% scam. Check SEBI registered advisor list first. 5. How to check quickly before you act 1. Slow down - wait 10 mins, ask someone. 2. Call official - call number on your bank card, not the number in SMS. 3. No screen share, no forwarding SMS - legitimate support never asks. If you already clicked / paid Do this fast - speed matters more than panic: 1. Freeze it: Open your UPI app > block / freeze, change UPI PIN and bank password from official app. 2. Call 1930 - National Cyber Crime helpline immediately and report on cybercrime.gov.in 3. Inform your bank. 4. If you shared phone access, uninstall the remote app, turn on airplane mode, and reset passwords from another device.
