WhatsApp scam impersonating Maharashtra Electricity with fake challan

⚠️ SCAM ALERT: A Verified WhatsApp Account Can Still Send Dangerous Messages Today I experienced something that I want everyone to be aware of. I received WhatsApp messages from an account displaying the name “Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd” with a verified badge and official-looking logo. The messages claimed there was a ₹3,000 vehicle challan and repeatedly sent OTPs along with a link asking me to take action. Everything looked genuine at first — the business name, logo and verification badge. But the communication turned out to be suspicious, and I unfortunately became a victim of the scam. 🚨 Please learn from my experience: - Never trust a message only because the account appears verified. - Never share OTP, UPI PIN, CVV or banking passwords. - Don't click payment/challan links received unexpectedly on WhatsApp or SMS. - Verify challans independently through official government portals/apps. - If you suspect financial cyber fraud, immediately call 1930 and report it at the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. - Preserve screenshots, phone numbers, URLs and transaction details as evidence. One click can be enough to cause serious financial damage. I'm sharing this so that what happened to me doesn't happen to someone else. Please share this warning with your family, friends and especially people who may not easily recognize sophisticated online scams. Stay alert. Verify first. Click later. 🔐 #ScamAlert #CyberFraud #CyberCrime #OnlineScam #WhatsAppScam #DigitalSafety #CyberSecurity #StayAlert #India
