  The same thing happened to me. Recently, I was receiving verification codes on my WhatsApp, but I honestly didn't understand why. Two days after that, I couldn't access my WhatsApp. I tried to log in, but I couldn't because it had been linked to the email of the person who accessed it. Also, I couldn't receive any code on my number because there had been so many login attempts that the system got locked when I tried. It told me I could try again after 6 days 😔

  If you are doing a procedure and waiting for that code, it is not a scam, unless it arrives on its own...
